As part of its information work, the AFB maintains a data base of national and international research establishments and researchers. This currently comprises 114 German and 168 non-German institutions and individuals engaged in research. The data base is constantly being expanded and updated (changes naturally depend on the relevant information's being made available to the AFB), and it indicates which of the following broad fields the particular organizations and individuals are working in: (1) peace theory/international relations theory/basic research; (2) global threats (economic and ecological issues); (3) causes of war; (4) East-West relations (security, economics, culture); (5) security policy (arms control, disarmament, alternative concepts, civilian defence); (6) arms and development, arms exports; (7) conversion of armaments and military sites; (8) North-South relations (security, economics, migration, environment); (9) dynamics of conflict and development in the countries of the South; (10) intra-societal and ethnic conflicts (nationality conflicts etc.); (11) psychological peace research; (12) feminist aspects of peace research; (13) international law and peaceful order (international organizations); (14) historical peace-research; (15) peace education and theory of peace-education; (16) ethics of peace, non-violence; (17) non-military conflict-resolution.

Invitation
to the
Eighth PRIF Spring Academy

The eighth spring academy on security issues is the second to be held jointly by the Hessische Stiftung Friedens- und Konfliktforschung (HSFK: Peace Research Institute Frankfurt, PRIF) and the Atlantische Akademie Rheinland-Pfalz (AARP: Atlantic Academy of the Rhineland-Palatinate). Under the overall title

'Thinking Peace--Making Peace:

Effects of Peace, Peace Settlements, and their Consequences

the academy, which will run from 20 March to 3 April 1998, will engage in a three-stage investigation of the effects of peace agreements. First, it will examine the various theoretical concepts that seek to explain how peace can be achieved, In the second part, it will address those actors who are responsible for peace settlements or their implementation. Lastly, using case-studies from the past and present, it will ask what problems stand in the way of the implementation of peace settlements.

The academy is intended for undergraduates nearing the end of their course of study, for graduate students, and for anyone involved in security-related work or the enforcement of peace agreements. Participants may sit an examination, for which a certificate is awarded. The session will begin in Lambrecht-Pfalz and will include an excursion to Strausberg, Pozn[daggerdbl]n, and Potsdam. The number of participants is limited to thirty.

The conference fee of DM840 (DM420 for students/unwaged) covers pre-conference materials, accommodation and full board in Lambrecht and Strausberg, overnight accommodation in Pozn[daggerdbl]n, and return travel from Lambrecht to Strausberg, Pozn[daggerdbl]n, and Potsdam.
