The topic youth and violence touches upon a highly politically charged issue in society that continues to be the center of public attention. The documentation presents an overview of the most important studies and research results in sociology, education, psychology and criminology from the years 1989 through 1994. In all of the studies, the research emphasis is placed on the youth's living conditions and value orientations against the backdrop of the rapid social change with its manifold effects, specifically in the new federal states. In addition, research is focused on the manifestation of and reasons for violent acts and hate crimes against foreigners committed by right-wing extremist youths, and develops approaches for successful actions in the practical fields of youth work and political education.
The introductory contributions examine the general research situation with respect to the phenomenon of violence and how it is emerging among youths, the cognitive structure of the research field, sex-specific aspects of right-wing extremism, and the relative importance of educational action approaches.
